As this year is marked by the commemorative events of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Hradec Králové, the new guided programme at the White Tower “Königgrätz 1866” will also be dedicated to this theme. The Hradec cultural and educational society, which operates the White Tower, would like to use the new guided programme to bring this important historical event closer to the wider public.
The programme is intended for all age categories and will guide visitors through the battlefield of the war clash between the Prussian and Austrian armies at Chlum. It will recall the historical causes of the conflict between the powers and also highlight its consequences, including those still visible in the landscape of the Hradec region today.
The guided tour, which will be launched on 1 April, will also allow visitors to become actively involved. This stands out especially compared with the current form of tours, where the visitor was only a passive recipient of what was shown. Children and their teachers in particular will appreciate this. “We believe that this entertaining form of presentation, close not only to children, will help to better understand these historical events,” said Miroslav Franc, director of the Hradec cultural and educational society.
