THE 25TH IMPERIAL AND ROYAL MANEUVERS WILL TAKE PLACE ON 21 MAY IN HNĚVČEVES (18/05/2016)

The historic Imperial and Royal Infantry Regiment No. 18, in cooperation with the Guard of the City of Hradec Králové and the municipality of Hněvčeves, invite you
to the 25th Imperial and Royal Maneuvers in Hněvčeves.
Hněvčeves was not chosen for this year's maneuvers by accident. On the day before the battle, around 7 a.m., a clash took place here between Austrian and Prussian advance guards. Its victim was the Austrian field rifleman František Kozák from the Austrian 14th Field Rifle Battalion, who is officially recorded as the first fallen soldier of the Battle of Hradec Králové.

This clash took place not far from the timbered cottage No. 15. 'The Austrian and Prussian patrols met each other near the Kadeřávek family (about 100 steps from the church), and one Austrian rifleman was shot, and also one Prussian, and this happened before the eyes of the locals. Then a complete flight began and only 10 men with the priest and about the same number of women remained in Hněvčeves. Dwellings, chambers, cellars and stables remained open, for word had spread that wherever the Prussians found something locked, they raged badly there.' This is how the event was recorded by the parish priest Josef Just in the memorial book of the Hněvčeves parish office.
